“The Man with X-Ray Eyes is an undoubted cult classic.”
– Time Out Film Guide
“Pere Ubu is the greatest out-rock n’ roll group of the last millennium, and probably the next.”
– The Wire
Cleveland’s legendary Pere Ubu is one the bands that launched punk rock in the 1970s. Ever ahead of the curve, they mixed loud guitars and electronics to produce truly singular sounds and inspire bands like Nirvana, U2, R.E.M., and Joy Division. We’re proud to present them performing their acclaimed soundtrack to Roger Corman’s 1963 science fiction classic “The Man with X-Ray Eyes.” The movie stars Ray Milland as a scientist who stumbles upon a formula for x-ray vision. But this provocative discovery has unexpected implications - and chilling results.
Pere Ubu has previously performed this soundtrack in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and London’s Royal Festival Hall. We’re proud to bring them to Charlotte for this unique presentation.
Plus: This performance will be followed by a short concert, included with the price of admission.

– Salvador Dali
One of Charlotte’s most innovative and exciting bands, Calabi Yau creates music that oscillates between taut tunes, angular grooves, and textured noise. Their distinct sound has begun to attract national press and their powerful shows have gained them a loyal following both at home and across the East Coast. Expect the unexpected when they score a selection of eye-popping classic surrealist short films, including “The Starfish” by Man Ray and “Ballet Mecanique” by Fernand Leger.

The Tenspeed Orchestra features the talents of Charlotte’s under-heralded jazz and classical music scene. Led by saxophonist Brent Bagwell and cellist Ben Kennedy, the orchestra is known for its unusual instrumentation and ingenious compositions. They’re the perfect ensemble to score the trippy animated fantasia, “The Adventures of Prince Achmed.” Inspired by The Arabian Nights and filmed using cut-out animations, it’s the first ever animated feature. This rarely seen gem has aged incredibly well. You’ll be dazzled by music and images of inspired whimsy and adventure.
